NOVI SAD 20-27. AUGUST 2017

Novi Sad ready for Women’s Junior European Water Polo Championship

After Men’s Junior World Water Polo Championship, Serbia will this summer host another big water polo competition. Women’s Junior European Water Polo Championship will take place on August 20-27 in Novi Sad, where 16 national teams will participate. Serbia’s national team, led by Head Coach Vlada Bajkovic, will compete in Group A together with Italy, the Czech Republic and France. In addition, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Spain, Slovakia, and Turkey will try to win the Championship title as well.

All matches will be played in the indoor pool at “SPENS” venue. The competition will see 48 games during 8 days, and ENTRY to all matches will be FREE – stated the Championship General Manager Darko Udovicic, who already has the successful organization of the 2016 Men’s European Water Polo Championship and recent Men’s Junior World Water Polo Championship behind him.

Speaking about final preparations for the Women’s Junior European Championship, Udovicic said:

Everything is going in the best possible way for now. Due to the great help and support from the City of Novi Sad, Provincial Secretariat for Sports and Youth and Ministry of Youth and Sports, everything is ready for the beginning of the competition, and we really owe them a debt of gratitude, because hosting such big competitions significantly contributes to the popularization of water polo. I can confirm that the entire team of the Serbian Water Polo Federation involved in organizing the Championship will give their maximum effort in order for everything to go in the best possible way and that all guests from abroad will enjoy our hospitality.

LEN officials have already arrived in Novi Sad, while all participating teams will arrive on Saturday:

The first three days of the competition will each see 8 matches, and these will be followed by the elimination stage and placement games. We all hope that our girls will manage to advance to the quarterfinals, with the support of the home crowd. This European Championship and Junior World Championship in Volos should be a true overture and an excellent opportunity for preparation prior to the start of qualifications for the senior Women’s European Championship hosted by Barcelona in 2018. Qualifying for that championship would be a huge success – said Udovicic, and concluded:

The opening ceremony of the Women’s Junior European Water Polo Championship is scheduled for Sunday, August 20, at 20:10. This will be followed by the face-off between national teams of Serbia and the Czech Republic. I would like to invite the spectators to come in large numbers to SPENS and provide our water polo ladies with the support necessary.
